How to Use This Checklist

Week 1–2: Start with Set 1

These are the highest-frequency words. Focus on 3–5 words per week using flashcards, games, and reading together.

Week 3–4: Add Set 2

Continue reviewing Set 1 daily while introducing Set 2 words.

Week 5–8: Sets 3–4

By now, Sets 1–2 should be mostly mastered. If not, slow down — there's no rush.

Week 9–12: Set 5 + Full Review

Finish strong with Set 5, then do a comprehensive review of all 52 words.

What "Mastered" Really Means

A word is truly mastered when your child can:

  1. Read it instantly (within 1–2 seconds) — no sounding out
  2. Read it in context — not just on a flashcard, but in a book or sentence
  3. Read it consistently — on three different days, not just once

If your child can read a word on a flashcard but not in a book, they haven't fully mastered it yet. Try our interactive flashcards which include words in sentence context.
