Your family's trust is everything. This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Last updated: June 16, 2026.
WordSprout (the "Site", "we", or "us") is a free learning tool that helps young children practice sight words through flashcards, games, and printable worksheets. The Site is operated by WordSprout and is available at www.sightwordskid.org. This policy applies to the Site and our optional email reminders. By using WordSprout, you agree to the practices described here.
We use the information above to:
We never sell your personal information.
WordSprout is directed to children under 13, so we follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The most important things to know:
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them to:
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that turning off some cookies may affect sign-in and site features.
We rely on a small number of trusted providers. Each has its own privacy practices.
Understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it.
Data involved: Aggregated usage metrics, approximate region, and device/browser details. Uses cookies.
Displays ads that help keep WordSprout free for families.
Data involved: Our children-facing pages are treated as made for kids, so Google serves contextual (non-personalized) ads only. Limited cookies may be used for ad frequency capping and fraud prevention.
Hosts the database where your account, student profiles, and progress are stored.
Data involved: The account, student, progress, and feedback records you create.
Delivers transactional emails such as optional review reminders.
Data involved: Your email address.
Optional faster sign-in using your existing Google account.
Data involved: The name and email associated with your Google account.
We use Google AdSense to display ads so the core learning tools stay free. To keep the experience safe for young learners, ads are shown only on parent-, teacher-, and content-facing pages — never inside the games children play — and children-facing pages are marked as made for kids so that ads are contextual rather than personalized.
You can manage ads and your choices:
If you opt in, we may send occasional review-reminder emails to help your child keep their streak. You can turn these off at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or in your account settings, and we will stop right away.
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information: passwords are stored only as a one-way hash, access to our database is restricted to the service, and we never store raw IP addresses. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data as if it were our own family's.
You may ask to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you or your child, or to opt out of marketing emails. If you live in California, the EU, the UK, or another region with data-protection laws, you may have additional rights. To exercise any of these, contact us and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
We keep your information only as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When you delete an account, the associated profiles and progress are removed as well.
We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site or sent by email where appropriate.
If anything here is unclear, or you want to exercise a privacy right, we're happy to help.
